The Bachelor of Arts in Musicology provides a solid foundation for entry into a profession in the cultural sector and for further academic qualification in the Master's program. On the basis of current issues, the program provides theoretical-analytical access to music from all epochs, discusses it in its historicity, teaches the tools for dealing with music-related sources, and shows diverse approaches to musicology from philology to gender and scene research.
In den ersten Semestern durchlaufen Studierende einen Zyklus von vier Überblicksvorlesungen zur Musikgeschichte von der Spätantike bis in an den Rand der Gegenwart und erlernen die Grundlagen historischen Tonsatzes sowie musikbezogene Quellenarbeit. Im zweiten Teil des Studiums vertiefen sich die Studierenden relativ frei in verschiedene Bereiche der Musikgeschichte und erhalten Einblicke in ethnomusikologische sowie systematische Fragestellungen, damit sie am Ende Ihres Studiums historisch tief und kulturell weit auf musikalische Phänomene blicken können.
Auslandsphasen lassen sich problemlos ins Studium integrieren und werden sehr empfohlen.
Musicology can be studied at the University of Freiburg as a major or minor subject, in each case in conjunction with a second subject from a wide range of possible combinations ( Kombinationsmöglichkeiten) , in order to be well and flexibly positioned for a job or a Master's degree.
